Have you been watching the highly acclaimed British-American television drama series Outlander?

Based on the historical time travel Outlander series of novels by Diana Gabaldon,  you can step back in time to 18th Century Scotland, and see the places across Scotland that makes this thrilling story come to life. Here's just some of our ideas for a special Outlander themed program.

  • Recreate the very first scenes in 1940’s Inverness, in the Fife town of Falkland, where it was filmed
  • Visit the home of the MacKenzie Clan, Castle Leoch, or better-known locally as Doune Castle. Then take in the shear grandeur of Hopetoun House which doubles as the home of the Duke of Sandringham
  • Just nearby is the majestic ruins of Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. You will recognise the exterior as Carlisle Castle and the darker interior as Wentworth Prison
  • Enjoy a stroll at the charming Glencorse Old Kirk, the setting where Claire and Jamie tied the knot. And that’s just the beginning

If you've got a group of Outlander fans, theme your entire trip to Scotland, or think about including a visit to one of the film locations as part of a wider program.
