Discerning golfers in Scotland will be familiar with the wonderful Archerfield Links, half an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. This stunning course shares the spectacular coastline of East Lothian with the splendid Archerfield House and a variety of accommodation including Marine Villa, The Boathouse, The Cottage, The Lodges and The Pavilions. That’s not to mention Fletcher’s Cottage Spa, which is at the heart of Archerfield offering the ultimate in rustic luxury. The icing on the cake is the recently opened Archerfield Walled Garden.

The Walled Garden sits within the historic walls that were once enclosed Victorian kitchen gardens and this means that incentive guests can add ‘taste, shop, explore’ to their list of things to do when in East Lothian.  With a café/restaurant, event space for 120 guests, a gallery shop and a deli, it’s easy to while away hours without even noticing the time. There is even a Walled Garden microbrewery! Set up from scratch with state-of-the-art equipment from Italy, the on-site microbrewery produces a variety of beers including their house label, Archerfield Fine Ales, masterminded by brewer-in-chief, Robert Knops.

In addition, The Walled Garden has continued the tradition of times past by restoring the raised beds from over a hundred years ago and is growing vegetables and fruit of all varieties. Gardeners from the Growing Forth Social Enterprise Scheme (designed to help disadvantaged people) will cultivate this produce. When ready, the produce nurtured by them will be used in the café and restaurant, will be available to buy in the deli and also sold to local businesses.

For the ‘outdoorsy’ incentive groups Archefield is in the process of creating a network of pathways to allow incentive guests to walk around the Estate, and will be developing a programme of nature-related activities too. There is also the choice of  a 'Segway Adventure' around the grounds too, just for anyone who does not fancy a walk!  So bring your wellies (Hello Scotland can provide the dogs!) and get set for a nature-rich wander before heading back into The Walled Garden for a restorative bite to eat, a refreshing drink, a hot cuppa….or something stronger like a craft ale or three? The Hello Scotland team loves the idea of an evening incentive event in the Walled Garden along with a private Farmers’ Market and mini beer festival!
